Dear Jim

With all the respect for david i am not agree with him at all. Its not part of web design at all as its really time consuming and the price is normally based on your phrases. As an example the price for keywords like: "Web marketing" or "web design" is much more than phrases like "bournemouth web design"
You can have some basic seo in your design but its not all. Before you start your web design you need to know the phrases that you want to focus on. After that you need to design your web site and wirte your content based on those phrases. Don’t forget to use your important keyphrases nearer to top or very bottom of your page. Also use important phrases in your title tag, meta description and ofcourse in H1 tag and …
After designing the web site you need to start link builing and add your web site to relevant web sites. Please do not add your web sites if they are irrelevant even if they got high pr ranking.
Also some tactical pay per click will help too.

Charges vary significantly, whatever you can get away with.

SEO considerations should be accounted for even before one web page, much less a whole site, is created. However, since doing the SEO work takes time and effort there is usually an extra fee for that work. In terms of cost, as mentioned above, they vary widely. It is probably best to ask for referrals to help ensure that the company that you are working with actually knows what they are doing.

Designers will try to tell you they know SEO. They don’t, any more than an SEO specialist knows design.

Be very, very careful here. Make sure you get expert advice.

Wbsite designers do provide onsite SEO during the building and publishing phase. They would charge extra for offsite SEO.

Some web hosts do offer SEO services, however, you have to pay a huge sum to them to do it. They are usually not the experts as well.

If you are really keen in SEO, you should look for the experts. I have a free ebook here, "SEO Made Easy" written by the world’s No. 1 SEO Expert, Brad Callen. You can take a look at it and I am sure you will have your knowledge on SEO grow leaps and bounds after reading it.

Not all web designers offer marketing and seo, but some do, there is a link below to one that offers both, as Tim as said Brad Callen is an ‘expert’ or ‘guru’ but that does not mean that he does not promote his own stuff, companies that offer seo usually have some very switched on and clever people working for them so it is worth taking a look.

You are right. Few sites offer SEO review in a Wordpress theme. I have found one which does just that. Go to Themegrade.com and click on any of the theme. You’ll be able to find the SEO test being done in the theme.

Wpthemereview.com also has a SEO score. But they are not doing a proper job in testing the Wordpress themes against SEO.

First of all, I’d like to apologize for the paid advertisers that continue to spam the ad for FreeWebSiteTraffic all over answers.yahoo.com. I cannot believe they don’t have a filter set up already to deny posting ANY response like the one above that contains any reference to FreeWebSiteTraffic or 5000 visitors. It’s quite obvious that they know nothing about SEO and are being paid to spam the forums. I continue to report them for spam every time I see one. I hope others will as well…

There are literally millions of reasons why your rankings may have slipped. Can you provide a URL for a page that was ranking along with the keyword phrase it was ranking for?

Otherwise, people here are simply throwing out wild guesses and sending you on wild goose chases.
